Composite Decking — Trex and TimberTech

Trex and TimberTech stay the right choice on the Eastside when you want a deck you can use in March without sanding it first. The boards are only as good as the frame and the drainage underneath. We install capped composite over properly spaced joists, with a picture-frame border and hidden fasteners where the line of the house calls for it.

Included in this scope

  • Trex or TimberTech capped composite, in a color matched to the siding and trim
  • Joist spacing that meets the board manufacturer, not a generic 16-inch guess
  • Hidden fastener or plug systems, with a picture-frame border on most layouts
  • Ventilated under-deck detailing so water does not sit on the joists
  • Stairs and landings in the same board line

Details that change the result

01

Color is a heat and glare decision

Dark boards look sharp against cedar trees and run warmer in July. Lighter gray boards hide pollen. We bring samples to the yard, not just a brochure photo.

02

The gap is the drainage

Composite does not forgive a flat, undrained frame. We pitch the surface and keep the gaps the manufacturer specifies so needles and water move off.

03

Railings are part of the system

A composite deck with a mismatched wood rail looks unfinished in a year. We price cable, aluminum or composite rail with the boards.

Questions

Before you call

Trex or TimberTech — which do you install?
Both. The right line depends on the color, the edge profile and the warranty you want on the cap. We spec one product for the whole deck so boards, fascia and stairs match.
Will composite get slippery?
Any deck is slick when it is wet and coated in cedar pollen. We choose a textured cap and keep the surface pitched so water does not stand. A covered section is the real answer over a north-facing door.
Can you replace only the boards?
Sometimes. If the joists are still sound, dry and spaced correctly, we can redeck. If the ledger or beams are soft, new boards on a bad frame is wasted money — we will say so at the estimate.
