SIDING · INSPECTION

Moisture and Weather-Barrier Inspection

This is the inspection we would want on our own house before a re-side. We open strategic spots, read the weather-resistive barrier, check window and deck flashing, and probe for soft sheathing. You leave with a written note: monitor it, repair a detail, or re-side. It is also the right first visit when a wall has stained, a deck ledger looks tired, or two contractors have already disagreed.

Included in this scope

  • A walk of the elevations, the deck ledger and the roof-to-wall lines
  • Moisture readings and a few opened spots where the evidence points
  • Photos of the wrap, the flashing and anything soft
  • A written recommendation: repair, monitor or replace
  • A credit toward the repair or re-side if you hire us to do the work

Details that change the result

01

We are not selling a re-side by default

Some walls need a kickout flashing and a few boards. Some need to come off. The inspection exists so that choice is based on the cavity, not a driveway guess.

02

What “WRB” means here

The weather-resistive barrier is the housewrap or felt behind the siding, plus the tapes and flashings that tie windows and penetrations into it. If that layer is torn or missing, new siding alone will not keep you dry.

03

It pairs with a roof look

Water often starts above the wall. If the roof is the suspect, the roof inspection is the companion visit, and we can do both on the same trip.

Questions

Before you call

Will you cut holes in my siding?
Only where a reading or a stain says we should, and only with your OK. We close those spots before we leave, even if you do not hire us for the repair.
Is this a home inspection?
No. A home inspector surveys the whole house. This visit is the exterior wall assembly: siding, wrap, flashing, and the obvious roof and deck connections that feed it.
How fast do we get the notes?
You get the photos and the recommendation with the follow-up, typically the next business day after the visit. If something is actively leaking, we tell you on site.
