One layer, not two
Roofing over an old layer hides a rotten deck and adds weight. We tear off unless there is a specific reason not to, and we will name that reason.
Architectural asphalt is still the right roof for most Eastside houses: quiet, repairable, and at home next to cedar and Hardie. We tear off to the deck, replace soft plywood, and install a system — underlayment, ice-and-water in the valleys and eaves, starter, hip and ridge — not just a new color of shingle on a tired felt layer.

A woven or metal valley is a design choice with a water reason behind it. We do not leave an open valley to “look rustic” on a house under firs.
North slopes grow moss. A shingle with algae resistance helps on the south and does less under deep shade. We talk about the trees, not only the brochure.
Most projects touch more than one trade. These are the pages homeowners open next, and the scopes we most often bundle into a single estimate.
