Grade is visible
A knotty board on a front elevation reads as a shortcut. We spec the grade per wall, not one price for the whole house that quietly drops the face.
Cedar siding is the Eastside classic, and it fails when it is nailed tight over a wet wall with no gap to dry. We install bevel, lap and tongue-and-groove cedar on a rainscreen, with stainless fasteners and a finish chosen before the boards go up. Clear vertical grain where you will see it, a tighter budget grade where you will not.

Cedar that sits unfinished through a winter is harder to coat later. The stain or oil is in the project, not a someday list.
Many remodels run cedar at the entry and soffits and Hardie on the field. We detail that joint so it looks designed. The house in our photos does exactly that: lap siding with a wood soffit.
Most projects touch more than one trade. These are the pages homeowners open next, and the scopes we most often bundle into a single estimate.
