The install can waste the glass
A high-performance unit set in a foamed, unflashed opening will still wet the wall and draft at the trim. Efficiency includes the install.
Old single-pane and failed dual-pane windows are a hole in the heating bill from November through March. We replace them with low-E insulated glass in vinyl or fiberglass frames, specified for a marine climate: a coating that keeps heat in, a spacer that does not fog at the edge, and an air seal the sash can still operate. The U-factor and the SHGC go in the estimate in plain language, not as a logo.

A west-facing slider in July is a different problem than a north casement in January. We do not spec one coating for every opening without looking.
The patio door is often the worst opening on the house. If we are replacing the windows, price the slider with them.
Most projects touch more than one trade. These are the pages homeowners open next, and the scopes we most often bundle into a single estimate.
